Bill Maher Astonished by the Impact of Taylor Swift and George Clooney on the 2024 Election

 On the latest episode of HBO’s Real Time, Bill Maher discussed what he called the “big news this week” — Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris.

Maher was visibly impressed by the pop star’s influence on the 2024 presidential race, especially after reports that her endorsement led to more than 400,000 people visiting Vote.gov, a resource that connects voters to their local election registration websites.

“Taylor Swift finally told people who to vote for,” Maher commented. “The immediate reaction from the other side was, ‘Celebrity endorsements don’t matter.’ People are so behind on these things. For a long time, the thinking was that celebrity endorsements weren’t that effective, but not in this case — just look at the number of people who registered to vote after her post.”

Maher was also surprised by data regarding Swift’s fanbase and their voting tendencies. Citing a poll from May conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies for Newsweek, he remarked, “The most unexpected part was who she influenced. It says that 27 percent of male voters would be more likely to support a candidate endorsed by Swift. I must have misunderstood this whole phenomenon — I thought it would primarily be women.”

Swift’s endorsement followed a highly anticipated presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. In her social media post, the singer shared why she is backing Harris, praising the vice president’s leadership and values.
“I’m voting for [Kamala Harris] because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote. “She’s a steady-handed, gifted leader, and I believe we can achieve so much more as a country with calm leadership instead of chaos. I’m also heartened by her choice of running mate [Tim Walz], 

who has been a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body for decades.”
